about

One morning, I was walking through Reservoir (a suburb in Melbourne's north) and found a cardboard box by the side of the road. It was filled with cassette tapes. I took them home and listened to them. They were a mix of curiosities - recordings of television shows, Greek balladeers, home-made language tapes. I was listening to the ghosts of another's life. I wanted to reconstruct something. Transport, transfigure.

It became a project shortly after visiting São Paulo, where new sounds and experiences became colours and tones. Collectively, they confounded me. I really didn't understand what I was doing. I still don't. I won't. It's like some interregnum. One of many, passed. How many? you ask. 10 or so. maybe 11

I point my microphone and my camera in an act of denormalising the ubiquitous ciphers of modernity, I do.
